Newborn Kits

  • Vest or undershirt
  • Onesie (One pieces outfit)
  • 4-6 Cloth Diapers
  • 8-10 Pins
  • Booties or Socks
  • Beanie
  • Mittens
  • Wrapping Blanket
  • Baby Soap
  • Large Bath Towel – to allow Mother to use to tie around her body when carrying her baby on her back. Also used to make a soft place for the baby to sleep

Not only is the Newborn kit warmth and hygiene, but it is far more important than that because for every Mother that we can entice to an institutional delivery at a remote bush Clinic (with a newborn kit) we have a chance to prevent maternal mortality, which in turn affects the rest of the children at home and the village who would need to care for them should she not survive the birth.

It is AMAZING to think that a simple newborn kit might change a life so dramatically, and in reality, we KNOW that it does!

Most times Mothers live far distances from local rural bush clinics and have to walk long distances weeks before giving birth in order to be nearby to give birth at the clinic. Makeshift shelters are used by sometimes 150 soon-to-be Mothers while waiting to give birth…On one occasion we stopped at one of these shelters and found 150+ Mothers whom we gave newborn kits to.

In addition, by having newborn kits at these remote medical clinics, it encourages Mothers to make this long, arduous journey knowing that their new baby will be clothed…By giving birth at the clinic where there are medical staff to assist, this will often times save both the Mothers and newborn Baby’s life!!
