“As we have given out school kits and seen the joy on their faces we have so wished we could share those initial looks with you. One mother told me “Oh Sister Jefferies you don’t understand what you have done for my daughter. All she talks about is the school bag and how nice it is to have paper to write on, how she loves the bag and why was she so blessed to be given one. Every day she has something new to say about it. Thank you so much.” We have taken opportunity to tell the recipients of these kits where they came from and who provided them. They are always amazed…it’s good for people to know that others are concerned about their lives and suffering.
Young men and children, well even mothers have been so excited with the clothes. It is so fun to give them . Most of the clothes are very nice, even new. We have been able to sort them into coordinating colors of top and bottom, and the Lord has blessed us in selecting the right sizes. Most of them act as if this was the first gift they ever received. Mothers are so excited and so grateful. You can feel the love they have for their children and how thrilled they are to make their children happy.
One of our sisters in a high density community is in the final stage of HIV infection. She had become so weak she could hardly walk across her room. Fellow Relief Society Sisters have been preparing her the ATMIT porridge and she is noticeably stronger. She can leave her house and assist her children after just a couple of weeks of eating it. One of our branch Presidents who is HIV positive says he feels much stronger since taking it.
We have given several newborn kits to expectant mothers as well as new mothers, each so appreciative. The last woman I gave one to was walking along the road, I just felt impressed to give her one. Elder J pulled over, I gave it to her, she looked at it, smiled so big, started to tear up as she expressed appreciation. I have wondered about her since, wished I could have communicated with her better.
It really isn’t fair that we get the joy of seeing the joy on people’s faces or hearing their “Thank-you’s”. Wish we could run a movie camera, that they couldn’t see, so you could see their faces and hear their excitement and appreciation.
We have participated in past years making school, hygiene and newborn kits. It has been fun being on this end, actually giving them out and meeting the recipients.”
What an ‘absolute joy’ it has been to read your e-mails and to feel of your love and kindness towards our People of Zimbabwe, please know that you are making a TREMENDOUS difference to their lives by lifting their spirits and in MANY instances, answering their prayers!!
